Fire Chief Scott McKenna blames himself for his sisters death. His brother-in-law, who caused the fatal accident, also died in the crash, leaving Scotts nephew, Cody, orphaned. But the accident left more than emotional woundsCodys in the hospital, and efforts to save his leg dont look promising. Erin Quinn, the charge nurse, is quite taken with Cody and his handsome uncle, but she has obstacles of her own to overcome. Filled with emotion and interesting characters, Calverts novel also offers lots of danger and suspense, from a mass poisoning to a delusional veteran who, flashing back to his nightmare situations in the war, thinks Cody needs to be saved from the hospital.
